Since I co-host Data + Maps Tableau User Group , I do love maps – or anything to do with maps.
Today I’m presenting a few tips on Maps, more will follow.
The first is on how we can isolate a country (or any other geographic data) in a map. For me, I very often put data on a map for Norway, but then Sweden and Finland is still visible, but without any data.
Add Country to the view, and create any other map layers with i.e. City/Municipality etc. Then we have a filled map of Norway, and some circles where we have data in those cities. And to get rid of those neighboring countries, go to Map menu, Background Layers and change the washout to 100%. Then Norway stands there all alone in it’s glory!

The second tip, is how we can change from having a lot of circles in the map, to rather use Density (from the Marks Card) – and even how to play/animate the change of data over time (using the Pages Shelf). Check it out on the video and stay tuned for more #TinyTableauTips next week.
