TinyTableauTip – Summer Guest Host Series
Guest Host: Nik Dutra – Data Masking
The TinyTableauTip summer series is back with a new guest host – all the way from Brazil! I’m excited to welcome Nik with some cool tips!
Using Calculations to do Data Masking
He is sharing a great tip on masking of your data, in this particular tip he’s showing a calculation on how to mask e-mail addresses, but this is relevant for so many other data privacy issues; GDPR in Europe, LGPD in Brazil and CCPA in US as some examples.
And then he’s adding a Parameter so the end user can select if you want to show the e-mail addresses or the masked ones. And finally, export the dashboard to PDF with the masked data – ready to follow any privacy issues.

Bonus: More Vizzes from Nik
More of his cool vizzes can be found on Tableau Public, among them his cool viz about Avenged Sevenfold’s Never Die tour stats! Nic’s a fellow hard rock/metal fan like me 🤘
Nik’s a great guy that I’ve had the pleasure of hanging with at different Tableau conferences both in the US and Europe over the last few years. He will also be part of the second cohort of Tableau Buddy Sandbox, as a mentor for LATAM.
Full video is as always found on my YouTube channel and more details is found on my blog, where you’ll also find a lot more #TinyTableauTips by all my guest hosts this summer and of course all of my tips as well.
