Reflection on 2024

Reflecting on an Incredible Year: Data Analytics and Tableau in 2024

As I look back on 2024, I am incredibly proud of the milestones and experiences that have shaped my last year. From personal achievements to collaborative projects, here’s a glimpse into my exciting year in the world of data and Tableau:

Recognition and Honors

  • Tableau TUG Ambassador: I am thrilled to have been nominated and selected as a Tableau TUG Ambassador for the fourth consecutive year. This recognition fuels my passion for contributing to the Tableau community.
  • Hyperight’s “100 Data Analytics & AI Professionals in the Nordics”: Being nominated for this prestigious list was an incredible honor and a testament to the vibrant data community in the Nordics.

Mentorship and Collaboration

  • Mentoring the Next Generation: Through the DataFam Career Pathmakers initiative, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring two amazing individuals: an Indian professional based in New York and a Nigerian PhD student in Namibia. Their journeys inspire me every day.
  • Collaborative Projects:
    • I co-edited an upcoming Tableau book authored by a Tableau Visionary from the U.S.
    • Alongside Prasann Prem, a Tableau Visionary from India, I launched the Tableau Buddy Sandbox project. This initiative aims to train students and non-data professionals in Tableau. With feedback from 15 #Datafam members worldwide, we selected three participants from five continents to join the mentorship program starting in 2025.

Judging and Advocacy

  • Judging Roles:
    • I served as a judge for both the Iron Viz Student Edition and the main Iron Viz competition.
    • I also judged the 2024 Data Visualization Award.
  • Community Support:
    • I supported the launch of new Tableau User Groups in Barcelona, Finland, and Denmark.
    • Each week, I shared #TinyTableauTip posts on X and Bluesky, engaging with the community and sharing insights.
    • I was involved in planning Tableau’s DataFamEurope event in the steerco committee, which replaced Vizit from previous years (that I co-hosted).

Local and Global Impact

  • Norway and Beyond: In Norway, we hosted four events with Tableau User Group Norway and two with the newly launched Data + Maps TUG. I’m excited about the plans we have for 2025!
  • Global Presentations: I was fortunate to present at:
    • Tableau Conference in San Diego
    • DataFam Europe in London
    • Make Data Smart in Bergen
    • Over 10 Tableau User Groups globally, including South Africa, Poland, Houston, Stockholm, Helsinki, Florida, and more. In-person in New York, Helsinki and Norway!

Academic Contributions

  • Guest Lectures: I delivered a lecture on Visual Best Practices at the BI Norwegian Business School.
  • Course Leadership: For the second consecutive year, I led the “MET202 Big Data and Digital Media” course at Kristiania University College, handling both lectures and examinations.
  • Tableau Training: 257 people have attended my classes in 2024, from Fundamentals, Intermediate, Advanced and Prep Training, and my most passionate theme; Visual Analytics.

2024 has been a year filled with growth, collaboration, and impactful projects. I am excited to carry this momentum into 2025 and continue building a stronger, more connected data community. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this – and please reach out if you want to have a chat.
