🔥 The #TinyTableauTip Summer Guest Host series is coming to a close – please welcome Serena Purslow! 🎉

She’s a fellow Tableau Ambassador and are sharing a tip on creating custom date variables.

🧮 Custom Date Variable
If you want to use a date in a parameter, but the date is on a day level – and you only want to use it on a month level, you can’t use the default date dimension.

Right-click on it, Create, Custom date…

Then you can chose any different type of date – in this case Months – and Date Value (to mimic the green pill of a date -> with month and year combination) – so that when you use it in a parameter later – you can choose between all month-year combinations.

😀 Create a Parameter
Create the Parameter from the newly created date dimension:

Right-click, Create, Parameter

Observe that the list is populated with all the month-year combinations from your data.
